Gunshots as suspected land grabbers invade Ogun community
No fewer than seven persons have sustained gunshot injuries as some suspected land grabbers invaded an estate in Ogun State.
However, three suspected land grabbers have been arrested by the police.
DAILY POST learned that the suspects were arrested on Monday around the Ota area of Ogun State.
Police said they are members of a notorious land-grabbing syndicate, who had been terrorizing Ota and its environs.
The suspects, Rufai Abdulkareem, Tobi Ajayi and Wasiu Oladipupo were arrested following a distress call received by the Ota Area Commander, from Owolabi Estate.
The Estate has reportedly told the police that some hoodlums, numbering about ten, operating on motorcycles, invaded the estate, armed with dangerous weapons, as they shot sporadically at people working on a site.
“Consequently, seven amongst the workers sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries,” the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said.
Upon the distress call, the Area Commander Ota, ACP Monday Agbonnika, it was gathered, quickly mobilized his anti-robbery men and moved to the scene.
On sighting the policemen, Oyeyemi said the hoodlums took to their heels.
However, he said three of them were arrested while others escaped.
“Recovered from them are: one locally made single barrelled-pistol, three live cartridges and two expended cartridges. The injured workers were taken to General hospital Ota for medical attention.
The State Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered that the leader of the gang, who was identified as Joseph Ayodele, be hunted for and be brought to book.
He assured Ogun residents that the suspects will be charged to court according to the anti-land grabbing laws of Ogun State immediately investigation is concluded.
Hope the culprits are brought to book
