Champions League: Pirlo reacts as Ronaldo, others jump over free-kick against Porto

Juventus defender, Matthijs de Ligt has insisted that he will not “copy” the methods of superstars, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gianluigi Buffon but will become great in his own right.

He, however, said he is looking to the Juventus icons for inspiration.

The 21 year-old highly-rated centre-half is still in the process of learning his trade.

Cristiano Ronaldo and his Juventus teammates crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday.

They were knocked out by FC Porto on away goal rule with De Ligt coming in the second half to replace Leonardo Bunucci.

Ronaldo made a big money move to Juventus majorly to help them win the Champions League, a move that has proved abortive for the second season now.

“I’m where I want to be and where I can learn as much as possible,” he told the Telegraph while talking about Ronaldo and others.

“There are experienced guys – [Giorgio] Chiellini, [Leonardo] Bonucci – but also a goalkeeper like Buffon and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“We all have our different characteristics and I do not try and copy them but I look at Ronaldo and see what he does, how he stays fit all the time.

“I ask for tips, for advice. What I have also learnt is that I need to do things that are good for me. In the end you find your own rhythm.”

On 43-year-old Buffon, De Ligt added, “Well, he could be my father!”
